MICROLOUVRE™ Solar Shading Screens – now available in Asia

SUN CONTROL / MICROLOUVRES

Sun control, also known as solar or sun shading, is designed to help combat the greenhouse effect in buildings. While internal solutions like solar film are well known, INNIVATE brings a unique, curated solution to Asia—microlouvre external solar shading screens that maintain almost perfect ventilation and outward visibility whilst reducing temperature and elimating glare.

MicroLouvre Koolshade® by Smartlouvre Technology is made from a fine woven mesh of miniature louvres only two times thicker than a human hair. It can block 100% of any direct sun or light angled as low as 40° and absorb up to 92% of solar radiation.

Why microlouvres are an ideal solar shading solution

INNIVATE’s range of microlouvres feature a unique design that provides 100% shade and 100% heat block, whilst still allowing LEED compliant visibility and ventilation—a winning combination that outperforms all other external solar shading systems.

Tiny angled microlouvres create a chimney effect, blocking solar radiation and removing heat before it reaches the glass, keeping rooms and buildings well lit, yet comfortably cool. They have been proven to reduce energy demand, reducing air conditioning costs by as much as 68% and lighting by over 50%.

With climate change triggering environmental changes faster than ever before, the need for passive yet effective ways to reduce temperatures in the built environment is increasingly urgent. As a fixed system that requires no energy to operate or maintain, microlouvre sun shading screens an ideal solution for forward-thinking architects, constructors, and homeowners.

Besides reducing the energy expendture of buildings, microlouvre screens also adept as a lighting accessory to neutralise glare, redirect light, and mitigate light pollution. This has the added benefit of reducing the likelihood of glass strikes—now part of LEED v4 considerations for bird safety under the Innovation and Design (ID) category.

INNIVATE’s range of microlouvre solutions are truly sustainable, in that they respond to climate challenges without contributing to the problem. Boasting an exceptional range of green credentials, all MicroLouvre Koolshade® metal fabrics are made from over 90% recycled scrap copper directly in the UK to reduce emissions from shipping. The metal fabrics and frames are 100% recyclable, and have a proven durability of over 60 years, reducing the need for constant replacement and waste

Microlouvre external sun shading screens benefit a wide range of settings, including residential, commercial and public spaces. They have been applied to architectural glazing, facade restoration, interior design, light and glare control, fire protection, and even privacy and security.

Sensitive to building and industry needs, INNIVATE’s microlouvre solutions are customisable to critical applications like gable ends, roof lanterns and shaped spaces in almost any industry, including facilities, education, medical, entertainment, retail, and more. Our clients say…

Paul Paffett Profile Image

“This ingenious product has been specifically designed for high-performance solar control as an external passive system for thermal management and glare reduction of sun-exposed glazing. The micro louvres dissipate the sun’s heat externally, while not blocking outward visibility. With today’s demand to reduce energy in a fully recyclable product, INNIVATE Microlouvre is the answer.”

Sun Control / Microlouvre FAQs

Used externally, INNIVATE Microlouvre screens work like a heat exchanger. They dissipate the sun’s energy and heat into the atmosphere, neutralising solar heat gain and glare before it reaches the glazing. Using micro-fine angled louvres and angular selective technology, it allows for optimum light and visibility whilst protecting against heat and glare.
There are three common types: internal blind systems, solar control glass or window films, and external solar shading systems. Internal blinds offer minimal protection, and tend to trap and re-radiate heat into the room. Solar glass or films are more effective in reducing heat gain, but often block natural light and increase the need for internal lighting (heat gain). External systems offer the most effective protection against heat gain, but unlike INNIVATE Microlouvre, external blinds and louvre variations still allow some heat to pass through and will tend to block outward visibility.
The amount of heat gain or glare is a key factor in determining the best solar shading solution for your needs. If there is low or minimal discomfort from heat and glare, internal blinds or window film may be sufficient. However, if heat gain or glare is severe, or if retaining daylight levels and visibility is a requirement, then external shading solutions are more suitable. Other factors to consider include aesthetic requirements and structural loading limits.
INNIVATE Microlouvre is manufactured in the UK from a fully recycled and recyclable bronze metal fabric and is a mere 1.55 mm thick, with each louvre measuring only 1.25 mm x 0.30 mm. Screens have a clear 80% open area and an openness factor of 0.67, and a weight just over 1 kg per square metre. The metal fabric and aluminium frames used are 100% recyclable, and proven to last for over 60 years. INNIVATE’s range of Microlouvre screens are one of the few external solar shading systems that are compliant for applications on high rise buildings, with a A1/A2-s1,d0 : BS EN 13501 Fire Rating from the IFC Group. They have also been wind tunnel tested by Building Research Establishment (BRE), withstanding winds of 100mph/160kph from different angles. For more information, download our brochure here, or reach out to us at www.innivate.com/ask-innivate/.
Microlouvre sun shading screens are lightweight, and therefore easy to install. They can be fixed to the building facade, window frames, mullions, or directly onto glass. For buildings that require moveable/removeable screens, fitted channels to slide in and out, as well as simple lift in/out options are available. For more information, download our brochure here, or reach out to us at www.innivate.com/ask-innivate/.
INNIVATE’s range of Microlouvre screens require minimal maintenance and do not need to be removed even for window cleaning. The metal fabric allows for glass to be cleaned through the screens using a simple pressure wash.
